Your Protection, Our Priority

Owatonna’s Commitment to Public Safety

Safe communities depend on strong police and fire services. That means police officers and firefighters have the resources they need to respond quickly when we need them most.

After decades of heavy use, Owatonna's police and fire stations are worn out. The Fire Station was built in 1906, and the Police Department operates out of a building originally designed as a bank nearly 60 years ago. These aging buildings face serious health, safety and infrastructure problems that make it harder for first responders to do their jobs.

Based on years of study, the City Council put forward a long-term plan to strengthen public safety by building:

  • A new Police Department on the West Hills Campus

  • A new Fire Station at the current Law Enforcement Center site

These projects will support faster emergency response, strengthen public safety services and meet our community’s needs for years to come.

As part of the November 2026 general election, Owatonna voters will decide whether this plan to invest in new police and fire facilities moves forward.
